The environmental ethic at GMA Cascade is a simple one: we reduce and reuse, recycle, and aim for zero waste. And every day we're working with the greenest product on earth -- solid wood.
We sell only legally harvested hardwood, the majority from sustainably managed forests in Canada and the US, and the rest from private timber originating in lands converted to urban uses in the Pacific Northwest in accordance with municipal land use planning objectives and the workings of public policy.
Because most of our wood originates from FSC, CSA, and FSI certified forests, we have not sought chain of custody certification for our lumber. Although certification is one recognized way of tracking wood from its source through manufacturing to the buyer, obtaining certification is a relatively expensive process that may not yield the kind of information and assurances our customers are after.
Our customers want to know that the wood they buy originates in North America and that woodlands from which it comes are managed with an eye to the future.
Our customers want to know that the wood they buy is of high quality and has been sorted carefully to meet their needs.
Sometimes these needs require specific local sourcing and unique sorts.
